Obituary: Clifford J. Reed, 83, of Scottville

Clifford Reed

Clifford J. Reed, 83, of Scottville, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.  Clifford was born on August 7, 1941 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Clarence C. and Dorothy P. (Barclay) Reed and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict with the United States Air Force.  On April 25, 1963, he married Maureen C. Quinn in Bethesda, Maryland and they celebrated 49 years together before Maureen preceded him in death in 2012. Clifford was also preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter Tina Stakenas; his brother Claud “Marion” Reed, and his sister-in-law Patricia Petersen.

Clifford worked over 30 years for Dow Chemical in Ludington, retiring in 2000.  He had deep faith and love for his Lord and Savior and was a longtime member of Beacon Ministries in Scottville.  A sports enthusiast, Clifford bowled in leagues around Mason County and played baseball with “The Ludington Mariners” old time baseball team at Historic White Pine Village.  Clifford was a pitcher and traveled all over the state with the team.  He was an avid Detroit Tiger and Lions fan and especially enjoyed watching and supporting his children and grandchildren in their many activities.

Clifford will be greatly missed by his children Kim (Ray) Castillo Jr. of Ludington, Terri Lynne Reed and Tammy (Ed) Castillo, all of Scottville, Shaun (Mindy) Reed of Custer; his grandchildren Tanya (Wayne) Hawke, Amber (Larry) Hawke, Derek (Kelsey) Castillo, Trevor Stakenas, Matthew McCann, Teresa (Aaron) Curtiss, Toby and Max Reed; his great-grandchildren Trent, Brooke, Vanessa, MacKenzie, Nathan, Kaitlynn, Faith, Isabella, Blake, and one more soon to arrive; his brother Richard Reed of Sheridan, Wy.; his brother-in-law Gary Petersen of Ludington; his sister-in-law Kathy (Jay) Johnson of Grand Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, and great friends made over his lifetime.

Funeral services will be held for Clifford at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at Beacon Ministries with his pastor, Rev. Tammy Bacon officiating.  Honor Guard services will be performed by the Edwin Ewing American Legion Post 76 of Ludington and the United States Air Force.  Burial will take place later at Brookside Cemetery in Scottville.  Friends may meet with his family on Saturday prior to services at the church from 9 to 10 a.m.
