Custer woman arrested for stealing truck, leaving crash scene.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 37-year-old Custer woman was arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies for stealing a pickup truck and leaving the scene of a crash Friday evening, Jan. 19, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
Tara Bowers was arrested after the vehicle she was reportedly driving sideswiped another vehicle on US 10 at Meyers Road shortly after 6 p.m., the sheriff said.
“Following this crash, the driver, Bowers, fled the scene southbound on Meyers Road to First Street and then east on First Street to the dead end and crashed into a snow bank. MCSO deputies tracked the suspect driver in the snow to a residence on Sixth Street. There, deputies discovered the suspect had allegedly stolen a 2008 Chevy pickup. The truck was recovered several hours later following the investigation in Branch Township and the suspect arrested.”
Bowers is charged with unlawful driving away of an automobile and failure to stop following a crash.

– 9:57 a.m., fraud, 6000 block of South Brye Road, Summit Township. The victim reported a subject attempted to file for unemployment benefits using their name.
– 2:41 p.m., possession of marijuana arrest, US 10 west of Nelson Road, Pere Marquette Township. A 45-year-old Hicksville, Ohio man was arrested following a traffic stop.
– 5:41 p.m., warrant arrest, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, City of Ludington. A 20-year-old Scottville man was arrested by deputies on an outstanding Scottville Police Department warrant charging retail fraud.
– 8:40 p.m., alarm activation, West US 10, Amber Township.
Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018:
– 6:51 p.m., car/deer crash, no injuries, US 10 east of Stiles Road, Amber Township.
– 7 p.m., car/deer crash, no injuries, US 10 east of Benson Road, Branch Township.
– 8:41 p.m., attempted vehicle break-in, 100 block of Nelson Road, Pere Marquette Township. A subject was seen attempting to break in to a vehicle and when confronted, fled.
Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018:
– 12:17 a.m., two counts of resisting and opposing police, 400 block of South Main Street, City of Scottville. A 47-year-old Scottville man was arrested following a 911 call reporting a “disturbance” and someone yelling and fighting.
