Obituary: Melvin Leonard Davis, 88, of Custer

Melvin Leonard Davis, 88, of Custer, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.  Melvin was born on September 11, 1938 in Muskegon, the son of Merlyn and Artis (Salsbury) Davis.  On September 26, 1959 he married the love of his life Olive Catherine (Bryan), and they started their lives together in Eden Township where they would celebrate 67 years until Olive preceded him in death last month.  Melvin worked as a Molder for Great Lakes Castings for over 30 years, retiring in 1999.  He loved old cars and tractors, cats, but most of all his family.

Along with his wife Olive, Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Merlyn and Artis; his loving aunt and uncle Doris and Dave O’Connell who raised him after his parents were killed together in a car accident – Doris later married Richard Gulleff and Dave married Jan Hill.  Melvin was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Virginia Davis; and his sister Carolyn.

Melvin will be lovingly missed by his daughter Teresa (Brian) Spinner; his son Melvin C. Davis; his grandchildren Jessica (James) Peters, Brian (Kate) Spinner, Ashley Davis, Amber Davis, Brooke (Waylin Coolman) Davis, and Jenna Davis; his great-grandchildren Ambriel (Caleb), Briann, Carlee and Emmy; and his great, great-granddaughter Serenity.

A private family gathering will be held with burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Eden Township.
