Xcel Copper: Joanna Petersen, left, and Eliza Miszewski
SANDUSKY, Ohio — Five members of the Flipstar Gymnastics competitive team opened the 2026-2027 season at the Flipping at the Point Monster Meet at Cedar Point last weekend, earning 25 top-10 medals, including 10 top-three podium finishes.
The five gymnasts were among more than 80 members of the Flipstar competitive team. The meet took place early in the competitive season and gave participants an opportunity to enjoy Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends festivities, with competitors receiving five-day passes to the amusement park.
Two Flipstar gymnasts competed at the Xcel Silver level.

Xcel Silver: Ryah Nichols, left, and Nola Randle
Nola Randle earned four podium finishes, including first-place titles on balance beam and floor exercise. She also placed third on vault and ninth in another event, earning second place in the all-around competition.
Ryah Nichols, competing at the Xcel Silver level for the first time, earned sixth-, seventh-, eighth- and 10th-place event medals and finished eighth in the all-around competition.
At the Xcel Bronze level, Emilya Miszewski competed in her first gymnastics meet, earning fourth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-place event medals. She finished seventh in the all-around competition.
Eliza Miszewski and Joanna Petersen competed at the Xcel Copper level, with both participating in their first competitive meet.
Eliza Miszewski earned podium finishes in all four events, winning the vault competition, placing second on uneven bars and floor exercise, and finishing third on balance beam. She earned second place in the all-around competition.

Petersen earned a third-place finish on vault, along with fourth-, sixth- and seventh-place event medals. She finished seventh in the all-around competition.
Flipstar co-owner and head team coach Aimee Goff said she was proud of the gymnasts’ performances, particularly because three were competing for the first time.
“To compete this early in the season is a tough feat for even seasoned competitors as they are all still working on learning their routines, but to do a big meet like this as your first ever competition takes a lot of courage,” Goff said.
Goff said the younger gymnasts supported one another throughout the competition and left the meet excited about their accomplishments.
After receiving her five medals, one of the Xcel Copper competitors was overheard saying, “I can’t even believe this is happening to me!”
Flipstar will host its first home meet of the season Nov. 21-22, when more than 80 team members are expected to compete against gymnasts from throughout Michigan.
The meet will be open to spectators. Competition schedules and spectator information will be posted on Flipstar Gymnastics’ Facebook page at facebook.com/FlipstarLudington.
