WSCC News is a presentation of West Shore Community College in partnership with Mason County Press.
VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College will host “Balancing Technology and Humanity in Healthcare,” a panel discussion, at noon Monday, Oct. 19, in the North Lounge of the WSCC Administration Building.
As technological advances continue to transform health care, the need for human connection remains central to healing. The HumanKind panel discussion will explore how health care professionals balance innovative tools and treatments with the compassion, communication and personal relationships that support patient care.
Panelists include Dr. Bret Autrey, a general surgeon with Corewell Health Ludington who specializes in advanced robotic surgery; Holly Johnson, a clinical nurse specialist at Corewell Health Ludington; and Bethany (Brown) Lupa, a nursing professor at West Shore Community College.
Drawing on their experiences in surgery, nursing and nursing education, the panelists will offer perspectives on the evolving role of technology in health care and the importance of preserving the human element in patient care.
The event is part of WSCC’s HumanKind series, which explores arts, culture and ideas that shape the human experience. The 2025-26 series theme, “Humans and Technology,” examines the evolving relationship between people and the technologies influencing everyday life.
The event is free and open to the public. Community members, health care professionals and students are encouraged to attend.
