Obituary: Richard L. Skinner, 75, of Branch

Rick Skinner

Richard L. Skinner, 75 of Branch, formerly of Clio, passed away in the comfort of his home on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.

Richard, lovingly known as Rick, was born on Dec. 10, 1950, in Flint, the son of Percy J. and Donna Jean (Curtis) Skinner. He graduated from Clio High School, Class of 1969.

On April 18, 1970, he married M. Jeanne Carr, and they shared 56 years together.

He was a man who embraced life with joy and generosity. Rick was known for his caring nature and willingness to help others.

From his younger years, he was an avid water skier, mastering even the challenging art of barefoot skiing. His free time was often spent on the water, where he enjoyed the company of friends and family. His enthusiasm for life and love for his family were the hallmarks of his character.

Rick was a cement contractor from 1970 until he moved north in 1987 and took a job taking care of a large piece of property and he fell in love with it. The woods became his happy place. He became a member of the Teardrop Bass Tournament Club many years ago and really enjoyed spending time with the guys in the club. Rick’s love for the outdoors was evident through his passion for hunting and fishing.

Rick will be dearly missed by his wife M. Jeanne; daughter Dawn (Dan Campbell) Skinner; son Rick (Becky) Skinner Jr.; grandchildren Drew (Becca) Amy, Ashlee (Brendon) Hirschfeld, Alex (Kaitie Clark) Skinner, Trever (Anna) Skinner, and Shelby Carver; great-grandchildren Landon Angst, Easton Skinner, Beau Skinner, Brayden Hirschfeld, Kolten Hirschfeld, Hunter Skinner, Sailor Skinner, and Cooper Skinner; and his brother Dan (Celia Archer) Skinner. He is also survived by his in laws Rick (Kathy) Fulton, Marcia Babcock, Sue (Kyle) Burgess, James Carr, Janet (Vance) Herbert, Rod (Paulina) Carr, John (Jill) Carr, Brenda Taylor, and Becky (Mike) Yost; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Wesley Skinner; his parents Percy and Donna Jean Skinner; brothers Alan Skinner and James Skinner; father-in-law James Carr; mother-in-law Marjorie Carr; brother-in-law Randy Fulton; and sister-in-law Julie Carr.

A funeral service for Rick will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Faith Fellowship Church in Irons, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Bachellor Cemetery in Sheridan Township.
