LUDINGTON — The chemical tanker Prime departed the OxyChem terminal on Pere Marquette Lake about 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, carrying another load of calcium chloride.
The vessel departed in steady rain with assistance from the tug Sarah Andrie, traveling through Pere Marquette Lake and the Ludington harbor channel before proceeding north on Lake Michigan.
According to AIS information displayed on the MarineTraffic app Friday morning, Prime’s destination was listed as Loyalist Cove, Ontario.
Loyalist Cove is located near Bath, Ontario, on the north shore of Lake Ontario, west of Kingston. The area is along the protected waters between the mainland and Amherst Island and includes commercial marine facilities serving the Bath waterfront.
Prime has been transporting calcium chloride produced at OxyChem’s Ludington plant to Canadian customers during the 2026 shipping season.
The Norwegian-flagged Prime is approximately 459 feet long and 69 feet wide and was built in 2004.
Sarah Andrie is a 106-foot tug operated by Andrie Inc. of Muskegon. The tug assisted Prime during its departure before the tanker continued north on Lake Michigan.
