LUDINGTON — The Mason County District Library’s Ludington branch will host Michigan author Dan Ellens for a special presentation and book signing on Wednesday, June 25, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The event will take place at the Ludington Library, 217 E. Ludington Ave., and is open to all ages. Admission is free.
Ellens, author of “Forest Legend: The Tale of Ol’ Split Toe,” will read from his book, answer questions from attendees, discuss his nature-centered lifestyle and sign books following the presentation.
“Forest Legend: The Tale of Ol’ Split Toe” follows Split Toe, a deer chosen for a unique education who travels through time to explore the interconnected history of a Michigan forest. Along the way, the character encounters Ice Age hunters, Ojibwe people, loggers, pioneers, environmental advocates and future scientists while witnessing the ongoing struggle between human activity and the natural world. The young adult novel combines adventure, environmental themes and Michigan history.
Ellens is an outdoor enthusiast and author who spends much of each year living off-grid in an electricity-free treehouse at Winterfield Pines Nature Sanctuary. He has written several nonfiction books focused on adventure, self-sufficiency and connecting people with nature. He and his wife live in Salem, Michigan.
