The Mason County District Library will kick off its Summer Reading Program next week with a family-friendly event designed to bring a little Halloween spirit into the warmer months.
The program begins with “Summerween,” a themed celebration featuring costumes, a slightly spooky story, crafts, games and trick-or-treating with library staff. If weather permits, the event may also include a short outdoor parade.
The first Summerween event will take place Monday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at the Ludington library, 217 E. Ludington Ave., with Ms. Emily. A second celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, at noon at the Scottville library, 204 E. State St., with Ms. Lisa.
“The Summer Reading Program is such a big part of our library’s mission,” said Emily Garland, head of youth services. “Promoting literacy and providing access to programs and resources is at the core of what we do every day. Students who read over the summer are statistically more likely to keep up with their age group and class for skills, and the more books available in the home the more likely a student is to continue their education. We have so many fun events planned. It’s my favorite time of year.”
All Mason County District Library programs are free. Children younger than 8 must be supervised by an adult.
