MUSKEGON — The Ludington varsity softball team saw its season come to an end Saturday, falling to North Muskegon 10-0 in a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 District 37 semifinal game hosted by Muskegon Oakridge.
The Orioles finished the season with a 12-23 overall record and were 4-6 in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.
Madison VanSickle pitched 5 2/3 innings for Ludington, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out three. She also hit two batters.
Ludington managed two hits offensively. Jacee Cole went 1-for-3, while Eva Flores was 1-for-2 with a triple.
North Muskegon capitalized on scoring opportunities throughout the game and applied consistent pressure on the Orioles’ defense.
“We actually did a lot of good things,” Ludington coach Sierra Holmes said. “We got to where we were supposed to be defensively and threw out some runners stealing. We took our cuts at the plate and didn’t watch too many strikes. We just didn’t get the hits when we needed them.
“The girls gave it their all until the end of the game, and we are proud of the way they competed.”
