COOPERSVILLE — The Ludington Orioles varsity softball team dropped a nonconference doubleheader to Coopersville Thursday, falling 15-0 and 19-0.
Madison VanSickle pitched the complete two innings in game one for Ludington, allowing 11 hits and two walks. Charlie Morse recorded the Orioles’ lone hit with a single.
In the second game, Heemstra started in the circle and pitched 1 1/3 innings. She allowed four hits, walked 13 batters and hit two while striking out one. Jacee Cole had Ludington’s only hit.
The Orioles fell to 12-22 overall and are 4-6 in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.
“Coopersville is just a more advanced team than we are right now,” Ludington coach Sierra Holmes said. “I told the girls to use this as a learning experience. Playing a very strong team late in the season is a good way to prepare for districts.”
