SCOTTVILLE — North Muskegon capitalized on Mason County Central miscues and strong hitting performances Friday, rolling past the Spartans 18-0 and 11-0 in a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division baseball doubleheader at Spartan Community Field.

MCC coach Shaun Reed said the opener was one of those games where nothing seemed to go right for the Spartans.

“Sometimes you have it and sometimes you don’t,” Reed said. “Sometimes you’re the pigeon sometimes you’re the statue. Every team has these moments where nothing is working. North Muskegon hit the ball well and we didn’t field well, bad combination.”

Pierce Bladzik went 1-for-2 for MCC in the first game, while Caden Rummer finished 2-for-3.

North Muskegon followed with an 11-0 win in the nightcap as Reed mixed pitchers while managing pitch counts ahead of a Saturday tournament.

“Having to navigate pitch counts for a tournament on Saturday, I was mixing in a lot of pitchers,” Reed said. “We are learning that we need to show up every day. Cannot take a break.”

Toby Reed led the Spartans offensively in the second game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Michael Chye, Bladzik and Rummer each added a hit.

Despite the difficult outing, Reed said the Spartans are focused on moving ahead.

“We are closing the door on this horrific day and moving forward,” he said.
