Obituary: Margaret E. Baker, 105, of Ludington

Margaret E. Baker, 105, of Ludington, passed away on Tuesday Nov. 11, 2025, at Oakview Medical Care Facility.

Margaret was born on Sept. 17, 1920, in Carr Settlement, the daughter of Fred and Irma (Nelson) Burke.

She graduated from Scottville High School in 1937. She went on to Davenport University where she earned her associate degree.

She married her high school sweetheart, Marshall Baker, on Sept. 15, 1940. They celebrated 59 years together. During World War II, Margaret was a “Rosie the Riveter” at the River Rouge plant in Detroit, working on the “Liberator” planes. For many years she worked for Don Diesing Reality as his secretary. After retiring from there, she and her husband spent time traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada. For a few years they spent their winters in Florida.

Besides spending time with family, she also enjoyed gardening, reading, working on puzzles, traveling and rooting for the Detroit Tigers.

Margaret is survived by her son, James (Alyson) Baker; daughter, Nancy Baker; daughter-in-law, Paddy Baker; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marshall Baker; son, Rodney Baker; siblings, Bernal (Doris) Burke, Ward (Mildred) Burke, and Lucille Harley; and grandson Greg Sides.

Per Margaret’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held May 15, 2026, at Riverside Cemetery in Custer Township at 10 a.m.
