MUSKEGON — The Ludington varsity boys and girls track teams both earned wins Tuesday in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division meet against Manistee, Muskegon Orchard View and Muskegon Heights.

The Orioles had a strong showing, coach John Lipa said. Walt Autrey recorded a throw of 55 feet, 10 inches in the shot put, breaking his own school record. Other notable performances included freshman Jayce Hodges in the 100- and 200-meter sprints; Deren Rodriguez, who won the long jump; Victor Herevia, who placed fourth with a personal best; Sam Reister, who had a breakout performance in the 800 run; Raymond Karboski, who won the 800; and Stryder Neves, who won the 300 hurdles.

For the girls team, Allie Brandt, Eliza Schwass and Greta Kehrer each placed first in their events. Brandt won the 800 and 1,600 runs, Kehrer won the 100 hurdles and Schwass won the 3,200 run.

Other notable performances included Harper Rasmussen, who placed second with a personal best in the 100; Camilla Braham, who won the high jump and placed second in the long jump; Carly Moffitt, who placed third with a personal best in the long jump; and Haidyn Larsen, who placed second in both the shot put and discus.

“We have a smaller group this year and are trying to manage some injuries, but I feel both teams are starting to pick up some speed,” Lipa said.

Ludington’s season is winding down, with the conference championships scheduled for next week.
