LUDINGTON — Members of the Friendship Bench Project visited Ludington Elementary School Monday to speak with students about the benches located on the school playground and at other sites throughout Mason County.
The Friendship Bench Project installs benches at schools and community spaces as a visible invitation for connection. The concept is straightforward: a student sitting on the bench is signaling they may need a friend, and others are encouraged to reach out.
There are 11 benches located at schools and other public spaces around the county.
The Friendship Bench Project, a nonprofit organization, has also been holding assemblies at area schools. During the assemblies, students are taught lessons in anti-bullying and how to use the benches to support classmates who may need a friend.
