PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Mason County Central opened the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division golf season with a fifth-place finish Wednesday at the first jamboree of the year, hosted by the Spartans at Lakeside Links.
Shelby edged Ravenna by a single stroke to claim the team title, shooting 162 to 163. North Muskegon placed third at 168. Shelby’s Titan Carter earned medalist honors with an even-par round of 35.
Mason County Central posted a team score of 195, led by freshman Lane Sterley, who carded a 45. Senior Grayden Etchison followed with a 46.
Bode Etchison and Cole VanderHaag rounded out the Spartans’ scoring with matching rounds of 52. Freshmen Colten Thwaites shot a 54, while Gavin Griswold finished with a 66.
Mason County Central returns to action Monday, April 27, at Waters Edge Golf Course in Fremont for a jamboree hosted by Holton.
