MANISTEE — Mason County Eastern earned a doubleheader sweep over Manistee on Wednesday, winning 18-7 and 20-1.
Miley Kessel pitched Game 1 for the Cardinals, striking out eight batters over 5 1/3 innings while walking six. Mason County Eastern totaled 16 hits, led by Emma Whitaker, who drove in four runs on four hits. Remi Smith and Hope Figgins each singled to right field early, adding to the Cardinals’ lead with RBIs. Bridget Whitaker added three RBIs in the win.
Alice Shoup earned the win in Game 2, pitching all three innings. She struck out five and walked four. The Cardinals’ offense was led by Kessel, who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Anna Story and Bryanna Hasenbank each had three RBIs as Mason County Eastern totaled 18 hits. The Cardinals did not commit an error.
Mason County Eastern will face Frankfort on Thursday.
