HART — Mason County Central’s varsity girls track and field team split its West Michigan Conference tri-meet Tuesday, defeating Holton while coming up short against host Hart.
The Lady Spartans used the meet as an opportunity to experiment with lineups and events, while still turning in several first-place finishes and personal records.
Maylan Sanders led MCC with a win in the 400-meter dash, setting a new personal record. Alexis Lathrop claimed first in the long jump with a PR of 14 feet, 6 inches, and also added runner-up finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. Faith Hawke earned a victory in the shot put and placed second in the discus with a personal-best throw.
Other strong performances included Nevaeh Battice, who posted a personal-record time of 2 minutes, 34 seconds in the 800 meters to finish second. Adison Thorne placed second in the 1,600-meter run, and Hailee Rogers recorded a personal-best mark in the high jump, finishing third overall.
Mason County Central coach Jacob Boone said the meet provided valuable opportunities as the team continues to develop depth across events.
The Spartans return to action Friday, April 24, when they host the Lake Michigan Car Ferry Track and Field Invitational.
