Varsity track: LHS girls sweep Oakridge tri-meet; boys fall to Whitehall, Oakridge

OAKRIDGE — The Ludington Orioles varsity track and field teams turned in a strong showing Tuesday, with the girls squad sweeping both of its dual meets while the boys team dropped contests to Whitehall and host Oakridge.

The Ludington girls defeated Whitehall 73-58 and Oakridge 78-49. Whitehall topped Oakridge 76-53 in the third meet.

Camille Brahm led LHS with a win in the high jump and a runner-up finish in the 100 meters. Sophia Janicki captured the 200, while Harper Rasmussen won the 400. Greta Kehrer swept both hurdle events, and Ella Wells took first in the pole vault. Carly Moffitt added a win in the long jump.

The Orioles also claimed all three relays, winning the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400.

On the boys side, Ludington fell 105-31 to Whitehall and 88-48 to Oakridge. Whitehall defeated Oakridge 90-47.

Walt led the Orioles with a win in the shot put, and Deren Rodriguez took first in the long jump. Ludington also recorded several other strong performances despite the losses.

Ludington coach John Lipa said the teams showed progress overall, particularly on the girls side with multiple event wins and relay victories.
