Robert Donald Vandervest, 90, of Ludington, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026. Born on February 15, 1936, in Ludington, he was a lifelong resident of the area. Robert was known for his easy-going nature and his love for engaging in conversations on any topic.

Robert married Audrey James on November 20, 1953 and together they had five children. For 40 years, Robert was the proud owner and operator of his truck driving business, demonstrating dedication and a strong work ethic. His love for the road extended into his personal life as well; he enjoyed riding motorcycles, scooters, and golf carts. Robert was also a frequent and enthusiastic participant at family gatherings and parties, where he cherished spending time with his loved ones.

Robert leaves behind a loving family: his daughter, Debbie (Dennis) Iteen; sons, David (Christie) Vandervest and Danny (Cathy) Vandervest; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth (Linda) Vandervest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Francis (Watashika) Vandervest; his beloved wife, Audrey Vandervest; a son, Robert Donald Vandervest Jr.; an infant daughter, Donna Vandervest; a grandson, Benjamin James Compeau; and his siblings, June Currier, Helen Currier, Wanda Currier, George Vandervest, and Dennis Vandervest.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Robert’s memory. Robert’s friendly spirit and his stories will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
