LUDINGTON — The Ludington junior varsity softball team dropped the opener of a doubleheader to Hesperia Tuesday at Oriole Field, 19-14, before the second game was called in the bottom of the second inning due to weather with Ludington trailing 6-2.
Rayne Holtrust started in the circle and took the loss in Game 1.
Offensively for the Orioles, Leesa Shereda led the way, going 3-for-3 with a walk. Holtrust helped her own cause, finishing 2-for-2 with two walks. Chloe Genter was 1-for-2 with two walks, while Myra Martinez went 1-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch. Sarah Benz was 1-for-1 with three walks and Peyton Greene was 1-for-1 with two walks. Vivian Terryn drove in three runs.
Ludington JV coach Maggie Bates said the team showed improvement despite the results.
“Today was a good day. We had some girls playing new positions but they executed well as a team and got to where they needed to be,” Bates said. “They were more aggressive in the batter’s box, which is something we’ve been working on. I’m happy with the way they played today.”
The Orioles are scheduled to return to action Thursday at Whitehall.
