LUDINGTON — The Ludington Orioles hosted the Grant Tigers in a doubleheader this evening, winning the first game before the second was canceled due to darkness after four innings.

In the opener, Madison VanSickle pitched a complete eight-inning game for the Orioles, striking out seven to earn the win. Ludington trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but a hit by Charlie Morse moved Madelyn Kenyon to third, putting multiple runners in scoring position. Taylor King then delivered at the plate, driving in two runs for a walk-off victory over the Tigers.

In the second game, Annika Heemstra started in the circle for the Orioles, pitching one-third of an inning before being relieved by VanSickle. VanSickle threw the next 2 2/3 innings, striking out three batters. Heemstra later returned and added another strikeout.

The game was called due to insufficient light, with the Orioles trailing 19-5 at the time.

“We saw a lot of positives tonight,” said Orioles coach Sierra Holmes. “Grant’s starting pitcher is very solid, and I was pleased that we stayed competitive and were able to find ways to generate runs.”

The Orioles are now 3-4 on the season.
