Roger Sanders

Roger Duane Sanders, 87, of Scottville, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Heaven just got a little rowdier.

Roger was born on May 11, 1938, in Battle Creek, to William and Mabel (McGhan) Sanders. On July 21, 1956, he married the love of his life, Darlene Swider. Together they raised two daughters, Kimberley Sanders and Tammy (Bob) Heller.

Roger spent his career as a master mechanic, working for C.W. Smith & Son and Urka Chevrolet until his retirement in 2005. He took pride in his work and was known for his skill, strong work ethic, and ability to fix just about anything.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found gardening, camping, traveling, hunting, fishing, or woodworking. One of his greatest joys was teaching all of his grandchildren how to fish—lessons that will be remembered and cherished for generations. After retirement, Roger and Darlene enjoyed spending time together at craft shows, selling their handmade creations.

Roger will be remembered for his quick wit and the way he always had a response or comeback ready at just the right moment. He kept those around him laughing and on their toes, and his sense of humor will be deeply missed.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; his daughter, Tammy (Bob) Heller of Florida; his stepsister, Sonja (Charlie) Argue; his sister-in-law, Pam (R.J.) Ruiz of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gary Sanders; his sister, Delores (Billie) Butler; his half-sister, Kathrine (Jim) Wilson; his brother- and sister-in-law, Tony and Lucy Swider; his daughter, Kimberley Sanders; and his great-grandson, Dalton Horacek.

If Roger were here, he’d probably tell us he’s got things handled, that we’re all doing it wrong, and that he could’ve fixed it faster.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at Suttons Landing, 5610 Iris Road, Pere Marquette Township, on June 1, 2026, at noon.

Arrangements were entrusted to Grace Funeral Home and Cremation Services. www.GraceCremations.com
