Obituary: Barbara Jean Genung, 82, of Custer

Barbara Genung

Barbara Jean Genung, 82, of Custer passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.  Barbara was born on March 28, 1944 in Johnson City, New York, the daughter of Edmund and Josephine (Guley) Namiotka and grew up in the Johnson City area.  Following her graduation from high school, she served her country with the United States Air Force where she met her future husband Glen Genung.  They married on September 12, 1964 in Binghamton, NY and celebrated 26 years together before Glen preceded her in death in 1991.

Barbara and Glen raised their family on military bases throughout the United States eventually making Custer their home.  Barb worked for Mason County Eastern Schools as the administrative assistant to the superintendent.  She was very involved in all school activities and especially enjoyed coaching her “Bowling Girls.”

Along with her husband Glen, Barbara was also preceded in death by her daughter Denise Genung; and her parents Edmund and Josephine Namiotka.

Barb will be greatly missed by her two daughters Deborah (Scott) Smith, and Kristin Genung (Chris Smiecinski); her son Michael (Lyetta) Genung; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother Edmund (Carol) Namiotka; her sister Patricia (Dennis) Genung; and her brother-in-law David (Beth) Genung; along with many nieces and nephews.
