KINGSLEY — The Mason County Central Spartans dropped a nonconference softball doubleheader to the Kingsley Stags on Wednesday, falling 4-1 in the opener and 8-1 in Game 2.

In Game 1, Payton Cory pitched a complete five innings, striking out two, walking one and allowing six hits.

Offensively, Aubrey Chye had a hit and a stolen base, while Ellen Norman went 1-for-2 with a double and was hit by a pitch. Cory helped her own cause, going 1-for-2 with a walk. Charlee Budreau and Avery Miller each added a hit, and Addison Copsey drew a walk.

Despite the loss, MCC Coach Denise Cory praised her team’s defensive effort.

“These girls made some solid defensive plays, making play after play at just the right time to stop Kingsley from scoring,” Cory said. “I was happy with the ball they played. They showed heart, drive and fought at every turn.”

In Game 2, Kingsley pulled away for an 8-1 win.

Miller started in the circle, pitching three innings with one strikeout, five walks, one hit batter and one hit allowed. Chye pitched the fourth inning, allowing two hits while walking one and hitting a batter. Cory closed out the game, striking out one without issuing a walk and allowing three hits.

At the plate, Chye led the Spartans, going 1-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases. Miller added a walk and a stolen base, and Graycee Kalush was hit by a pitch.
