KINGSLEY — The Mason County Central Spartans dropped a nonconference doubleheader to Kingsley on Wednesday, April 8, falling 11-6 in the opener and 3-2 in a daylight-shortened second game.

In Game 1, MCC was limited to two hits — a single by Justin Resendez and a two-run home run by Kaden Ruiz — and struggled to find offensive rhythm.

“We came into the game flat and were never able to get any momentum,” said MCC Coach Shaun Reed. “Several errors cost us about five runs. We need to be sharper. We’ll fix that.”

Ruiz started on the mound and pitched three innings before Trent Hawke relieved him for two. The pair combined for five strikeouts and two walks.

In the nightcap, shortened to four innings due to daylight, the Spartans nearly rallied.

Gideon Sales delivered a two-RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2, but Kingsley responded with a run in the bottom half to secure the win.

Thomas Lynch, Ruiz and Pierce Bladzik each recorded a hit for MCC. Bladzik also pitched all four innings, turning in a solid effort on the mound.

Despite the losses, Reed said the games provided valuable early-season insight.

“If we’re not winning, then we’re learning,” Reed said. “Kingsley is a good team, and these games were a good barometer to see where we’re at. It’s still early in the season. We are a good baseball team and just need to make some minor adjustments. We’ll be fine.”

The Spartans are scheduled to open conference play Tuesday against Hart.
