Carolyn McVicker

Carolyn Sue McVicker, 69, of Fountain, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026.

She was born April 1, 1956, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Walter and Evelyn (Genson) Urban. Carolyn famously “arrived in a hurry” on April Fool’s Day, just before tornadoes devastated the area.

Carolyn married Steve McVicker on Aug. 8, 2009. Holding hands throughout their 17 years together, they embraced each moment and were always ready for their next adventure.

Carolyn graduated with high honors from Mason County Eastern High School in 1974 and earned a degree from Michigan State University in 1978. She began her career with Reynolds Aluminum in Minneapolis and Texas, later working for William Plante Photography in Detroit and as an interior designer in California.

After returning to Michigan, Carolyn joined the family business, Flowers by Lorraine, and also worked at Russ Miller Studio, where she became a member of the Professional Photographers of America in 1989. She also cherished her time as a nanny to her nephews and shared a special bond with her godson, Chandler Panetta.

Carolyn concluded her career at the West Shore Community College Recreation Center, where she worked for 19 years. She especially enjoyed interacting with the community and her colleagues, and her creativity was reflected in the monthly birthday boards that became a favorite among members.

She loved spending time in the sun, tending to her flower gardens, camping with Steve and traveling. Favorite destinations included Hawaii, the Caribbean, Florida and Arizona—anywhere with palm trees.

A gifted seamstress, Carolyn altered wedding, prom and bridesmaids gowns and created custom window treatments. She also assisted her mother by photographing family events, helping create annual photo books for the family. Carolyn had a passion for home décor and created a warm, timeless space inspired by natural colors in the home she shared with Steve.

Carolyn’s greatest gift was the loving care she and Steve provided to her parents, meeting every need with compassion, patience and love.

She is survived by her husband, Steve McVicker; her parents-in-law, Mervin and Donna McVicker; stepchildren, Adam and Sheryl McVicker, and Heather and Chris Vanderhaag, along with their children, Jack and Cole; siblings-in-law, Kevin (Deb) McVicker, Todd McVicker and Drew (Bobbi) McVicker; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her siblings, Lorraine (Ken) Baushke, Thomas (Renee) Urban, Lawrence (Sherrie) Urban and Suzanne (Robert) Panetta; along with 11 nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelyn Urban; her nephew, Brandon McVicker; and infant nephew, Matthew Urban.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Corewell Health Hospice or Caritas Food Pantry.

Arrangements were entrusted to Wyman Funeral & Cremation Services. Please visit her memory page at www.wymanfuneralservice.com to share a memory or tribute.
