CUSTER — A 33-year-old Custer woman who was working as a paraprofessional at Mason County Eastern at the time is accused of having a sexual relationship with a male high school student.
Tanya Schram was arrested by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Thursday, March 19, and lodged in the Mason County Jail on two felony counts of child sexually abusive activity and two felony counts of using a computer to commit crime, each of which are punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
“The Mason County Sheriff’s Office started a criminal investigation into a paraprofessional at the Mason County Eastern High School after an MCE student approached the school’s school resource officer to report an inappropriate relationship had reportedly taken place between the staff member and a high school student on Nov. 12, 2025,” stated Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. “The information relayed to the SRO did identify the staff member, but not the student involved. As soon as the deputy was aware of the matter, MCE school officials were notified, and the employee was terminated.
“Several days later, two MCE students approached the MCE SRO and provided the name of a student, who was thought to have been involved in some sort of inappropriate relationship. The SRO started conducting interviews into the matter and learned this case had taken place several times throughout the summer and early school year of 2025 in Mason County. It was further learned the case involved photographs that had been reportedly exchanged via a social media platform.”
Mason County detectives swore to a four-count felony warrant Thursday, charging Schram with the crimes. She posted 10 percent of a $10,000 bond and was released from jail.
A preliminary exam in Mason County’s 79th District Court is scheduled for April 8 at 1:30 p.m., according to court records.
