LUDINGTON — Brent Gillett has been hired as the new Ludington High School head varsity football coach, replacing Charlie Gunsell, who has retired from the position.
Gillett has been coaching football at LHS since the 2012 season. Most recently, he served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Orioles, leading the offense to set school records for points scored during both the 2024 and 2025 campaigns. The high-flying offense helped the Orioles secure the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division Championship and a 9-0 regular season record during the fall of 2025.
Gillett played a significant role in the development of All-State Quarterback Cameron Gunsell, who set a school record last fall for most touchdowns scored in both a season and in a career; Gunsell’s career touchdown total ranks second all-time in the state of Michigan.
Gillett participated in the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Leadership Development Alliance in 2023, in partnership with the American Football Coaches Association 35 Under 35 Program, to create an intensive training program for future head coaches. He also previously worked with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League as a game entry specialist, entering specific information to support the scouting department as the Browns prepared for the NFL Draft.
In addition to his new role as head football coach at Ludington High School, Gillett serves as the OJ DeJonge Middle School athletic director, assistant LHS athletic director, and recreation director for the Ludington Area School District.
Previously, Gillett served as the dean of students at both O.J. DeJonge Middle School and the former Foster Elementary School.
Gillett is an alumnus of LASD and has been involved in the LHS football program since he served as a ball boy during his elementary school years. He also played for former LHS Coach Charlie Gunsell.
After graduating from LHS, Gillett earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Central Michigan University.
