Boys Varsity Swimming: LHS tops Alma, Manistee, sets new records

MANISTEE — Ludington Swim and Dive won a double dual meet against Alma and Manistee Tuesday.

Oriole swimmers achieved two new individual state qualifying times on their way to a 117-40 point victory over Manistee High School and 114-46 victory over Alma High School. Senior Grady Sailor achieved his first individual state qualifying time in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.74. This was a lifetime best time for Sailor and was more than half a second under the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state qualifying time of 51.29. Senior Dylan Sniegowski swam to his fourth individual qualifying time, this one in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:07.77. This was a lifetime best by over 18 seconds and well under the state qualifying time of 5:20.99.

“The guys performed fantastic tonight,” said LHS Coach Susan Sniegowski. “It is really exciting to see them getting best times in swimming and best scores for diving at this point in the season.  Our practices lately have been really intense, and they are rising to the challenge.

“I am continually impressed with the whole team. They work hard and it is showing in the meets. Every member of the team contributed to the winning scores tonight.”

The Orioles will honor their seniors next Tuesday at the final dual meet of the season when they take on Manistee again at home. The meet starts at 6 p.m. at the Donald C. Baldwin Community Pool in Ludington.
