LUDINGTON — A five-day jury trial began in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Monday, Feb. 9, for 33-year-old Evan Lee Fargo who faces two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC).

The alleged crimes occurred over 13 years ago on Jan. 1, 2013, according to court records, and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by the Michigan State Attorney General’s Office, and Oceana County Probate Judge Eric Fox is presiding over the trial.

Fargo was arraigned on the charges Jan. 3, 2024 and was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond, according to court records. He is being represented by defense attorney Gary Springstead.

The trial was scheduled to begin Jan. 5, but was adjourned due to an attorney conflict, court records state.

First-degree CSC is punishable by up to life in prison.
