MUSKEGON — Mason County Central was victorious over the Orchard View Cardinals Tuesday night, winning 54-38.
“It was a tight first half of basketball, with us leading 22–19 at the break,” said MCC Coach Chris VanderHaag. “We struggled at times to find a rhythm offensively in the first half. In the second half, we settled in and started playing our game.”
Senior Cole VanderHaag jump-started the momentum, scoring 15 of his team-high 28 points in the third quarter alone while also adding four steals.
“Freshman Bodie Etchison earned his first varsity minutes in the third quarter, and his defensive pressure paired with Cole’s scoring provided the spark we needed. Sophomore Brandon Peters continues to grow into his defensive role and had another strong night on the glass, finishing with a team-high eight rebounds.
“Overall, this was a good team win. Our guys were physical tonight, and we’re at our best when we play with that level of physicality.”
