SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Central Spartans fell to top-ranked North Muskegon Monday night in West Michigan Conference Rivers Division play. But, seconds before the end of the third quarter, senior Cole VanderHaag hit his 1,000th varsity career point in a three-point shot. VanderHaag is the 10th Spartan boy to achieve the milestone. See related story here.

“My guys played hard tonight against a solid North Muskegon team,” Coach Chris VanderHaag said. “Against opponents like that, we have to be near perfect to win.  Execution has to be sharp, and with more than a few missed off-ball help rotations and offensive miscues ended up costing us.

I thought we played them much better this time around.”

Spartan junior Trent Hawke had a good night, finishing with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Two other players who really stood out were sophomore Brandon Peters along with VanderHaag.

“Brandon was physical on the glass, played very solid defense, and finished with 7 points and 6 rebounds,” Coach VanderHaag said. “Cole had a hard-earned 21 points to go along with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

“Overall, we are playing good basketball right now. We’re continuing to find the right rotations and keep improving as we move forward.”
