The Lakeshore Badgers were on the road over the weekend. First playing against the Gladwin Flying Gs in Gladwin on Friday then against the Manistique Emeralds on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Badgers were defeated in both games.
GLADWIN — The game was a tight contest with the teams trading goals throughout the game. Three periods were not enough time to decide the contest, the teams needing overtime to close this one out. Gladwin scored a minute and 25 seconds into the extra session to take the win with a score of 6-5.
The Badgers scored two power play goals and successfully killed the three penalties they were assessed. The Badgers got goals from Mason County Central senior Lukas Schade (3 goals), MCC junior Cyric Jabrocki and MCC senior Levi Young. MCC junior Brockton Jabrocki, goalie, took the loss in goal, stopping 13 of the 19 shots he faced. Lukas Schade was named player of the game.
MANISTIQUE — The Badgers made their way north of the Mackinaw Bridge to take on the Manistique Emeralds for the third time this year. The game was a hotly contested game with limited scoring changes for both teams. Manistique scored first just over 2 minutes into the second period, taking advantage of a man advantage. The Badgers evened the score with just under 7 minutes remaining in the second period, also on the power play. Manistique scored again on the power play with 10 minutes remaining in the third period which would prove to be the game winning goal. Final score, 2-1.
MCC senior Lukas Schade tallied the lone goal for the Badgers on the night. MCC junior Brockton Jabrocki took the loss in net, stopping 12 of the 14 shots he faced. Ludington High School sophomore Adrian Lundberg was named player of the game.
The losses bring the teams season record to 12 wins and 11 losses.
The Badgers next game is Friday, February 6 in East Lansing against the Capital City Caps. Their next home game is Saturday, February 7 against the Kalamazoo Eagles, 6 p.m. at West Shore Community Ice Arena on the campus of West Shore Community College.
The Lakeshore Badgers is a cooperative team hosted by Manistee Area Public Schools and consisting of high school players from MAPS, Ludington, Mason County Central, Mason County Eastern, Pentwater, Shelby and Hart.
