Varsity Boys Swimming: LHS splits duals at Hamilton

HAMILTON — Ludington split a dual meet at Hamilton High School Thursday, Jan. 15. The Orioles defeated Grand Rapids Catholic Central 109-72 and fell to Hamilton High School, 106.50-78.50.

LHS senior Dylan Sniegowski was the high point scorer for the Orioles winning both the 200 Individual Medley in a season best time of 2:14.02 and the 500 freestyle events with a lifetime best of 5:25.88 against both opponents. He was also the anchor of the overall winning 200 free relay team along with seniors Ian Lundberg and Grady Sailor and freshman Easton Warners. Junior Jaden Vronko had the only other overall Oriole event win in the 100 backstroke.  Grady Sailor defeated all Hamilton swimmers in the 50 freestyle.

The largest time improvement of the night was Freshman Kasen Carlsen with a drop of 34.93 seconds in the 500 freestyle.  Grady Sailor and Evan Hansen both stepped up to swim the 100 butterfly for the first time.  Sailor finished second to Hamilton and defeated both swimmers from Catholic Central in the butterfly.  Freshman Grayson Cogle swam a lifetime best 50 freestyle with a time of 29.68. Carlsen and Bishop both achieved lifetime best times in the 100 backstroke.

The Orioles defeated Grand Rapids Catholic Central in every event except the 50 freestyle.  Event winners over GRCC include the 200 Medley Relay team of Vronko, Warners, Sniegowski and Will Ryan. Ian Lundberg in the 200 freestyle with a lifetime best time of 2:03.06,  Sniegowski 200 IM, Sawyer Bishop in diving with a lifetime high score of 227.75, Easton Warners finished first and Will Ryan second in the 100 freestyle, Sniegowski 500 freestyle, Vronko 100 back, Lundberg was first and Warners second in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 free relay team of Sailor, Ryan Vronko and Lundberg defeated the teams from GRCC.

The team competes on the road again next week Tuesday against Spring Lake and Mona Shores.
