MONTAGUE — Mason County Central took second place and Ludington took sixth Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Montague High School meet. Hart took first place in the West Michigan Conference meet.
“We had our top scores in all three rounds at Montague last night,” said MCC Coach Cheri Stibitz. “We were missing a judge due to the weather so scoring was a little odd. Two judges placed their scores and a computer program calculated the average score for the ‘missing’ judge.
“We did not perform the way I had hoped in our first round,. We changed a few things and although the score reflected a positive result we still have a lot of work to do. Round 1 scores were very close.”
Round 2 MCC took a 10 point penalty because they did not have enough competitors on the mat for its division.
“We are division 3 and the mandated number is eight. I have six eligible girls on the team. North Muskegon and Shelby did not take that penalty and it is difficult to close the gap.
“We had the highest round 3 score of the meet by over 6 points,” Stibitz said. “We are also not hitting all the required skills in round 3 as we are missing back tucks. That’s 6 points (or 2 points per judge) we don’t get that other teams that have the skill do.
“Overall we did a great job and are headed to Grand Rapids West Catholic on Saturday.”
