Boy, 14, suspended for making shooting threat at Ludington High School

LUDINGTON — A 14-year-old boy has been suspended from school after allegedly making a written threat referring to a school shooting at Ludington High School Wednesday, Jan. 14.

‘The investigation will continue, and once completed, it will be referred to the Mason County prosecutor for criminal charges,” states a press release from the Ludington Police Department.

“LPD officers have been actively investigating a written comment found on Ludington High School premises, referring to a school shooting that was to occur on a specific date. While conducting the investigation, LPD officers were able to identify a juvenile suspect and conduct an interview with the suspect in the presence of his parent. The juvenile suspect confessed to writing the comment. The juvenile suspect has been identified as a 14-year-old male from Pere Marquette Township.

“There is no ongoing threat to the Ludington High School community as it relates to this incident,” states the press release. “Ludington High School administration has been advised, and the juvenile suspect has been suspended until further notice. The investigation will continue, and once completed, it will be referred to the Mason County prosecutor for criminal charges.

“Ludington police would like to thank the Mason County Sheriff’s Office school resource officer team and the Ludington Area School District for their assistance with this investigation.”
