REED CITY — Mason County Central lost to host Reed City today during a winter break tournament. It was the Spartans’ second loss of the weekend. See related story here. Reed City was victorious 71-64.
“This was a tough loss today to a scrappy Reed City team,” said MCC Coach Chris VanderHaag. “I was proud of how our guys competed and felt like they truly left it all on the floor. We switched up some of our offensive rotations and went to a more aggressive defensive approach, which gave us a boost and helped our energy.
“We had some big performances. Sophomore Brandon Peters gave us really quality minutes and continues to do a nice job playing with physicality on both ends. He finished with six big-time rebounds. Senior Cole VanderHaag had a stellar night, leading all scorers with 32 points while adding four rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Senior Grayden Etchison played extremely hard at the top of our defense and came away with four steals as well.
“Credit to Reed City’s guard play — they were able to knock down some big-time dagger shots when it mattered.”
