MUSKEGONWhitehall High School defeated Ludington High School in the opening season of bowling competition Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 3. The Orioles and Vikings competed at Northway Lanes. The Orioles girls’ team lost 16-14 while the boys were defeated 29-1.

“For the girls, they won both baker games but had a hard time in the individual games,” said LHS Coach Maggie Bates. “For the boys, we have a small team and that factors into the final score. However the boys that were there bowled well in game one.

“This was the first meet of the season for both of the teams. We saw what we need to work on today and at the same time we saw good things happening. Our girls’ team is fairly young but they are making progress every day. Our boys only had three bowlers today but the boys that are there are strong competitors. We have a long season ahead of us and these kids are going to continue to grow and get better.”

Individual scores, girls:

Game 1: Lauryn Payne, 83; Brianna Fay, 68; Natalee Ruggero, 113; Lilly Bolton, 82; Rylie Arklet, 114.

Game 2: Payne, 99; Ruggero, 135; Bolton, 92; Tayten Jolly, 70; Arklet, 109.

Individual scores, boys:

Game 1: Trenton Riggero, 158; Matt Odegaard, 154; Jaxon Payne 153.

Game 2: Riggero, 99, Odegaard, 123, Payne, 129.
