
John Gancarz
John Joseph Gancarz, 78, of Free Soil, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Born on June 17, 1947, in Muskegon, he was the son of the late Joseph and Virginia (Feliczak) Gancarz.
John graduated from Free Soil Community School in 1965 and furthered his education at West Shore Community College. He dedicated 46 years to Martin Marrieta, from where he retired in 2012.
A devout member of St. John Cantius Catholic Church, John’s faith played a significant role in his life. John grew up on his family farm where he learned the value of hard work. His hobbies included being an active member of the Fin & Feather Club, attending car shows, hunting, fishing, bowling, snowmobiling, mowing the fields of his family’s farm with his dad’s 1951 Massey Ferguson, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, traveling to NASCAR races, and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife, Nancy Gancarz, whom he married on August 14, 1971; his daughter, Andrea (Michael) Wegener; granddaughters, Olivia Jean and Grace Isabelle Wegener; sisters, Patricia Grigsby and Sally Sawyer; brothers-in-law, Phil (Barbara) Lind, Tom (Joy) Lind, and Mike (Jackie) Lind; sister-in-law, Rebecca Gancarz; his favorite companions, Lilly, Bella, Bailey; grandpup, Bo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Virginia Gancarz; parents-in-law, Bernard and Lucille (Lijewski) Lind; brother, Richard Gancarz; and brothers-in-law, Clayton Sawyer and Richard Grigsby.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. His legacy of love, dedication, and joy will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
