Fredna and Joe Lindsey
AMBER TOWNSHIP — An early November snowstorm took the lives of a couple who were community leaders in Ludington and Idlewild. Lake effect snow struck western Mason County on Monday, Nov. 10 causing several traffic crashes. A crash that occurred that day on US 10-31 east of Dennis Road took the lives of Fredna Lindsey, 88, and Joe Lindsey Sr., 87, former owners of Blue Ribbon Cleaners in Ludington and residents of Idlewild.
Joe Lindsey was driving a Chevrolet El Camino west on US 10-31 when his vehicle apparently lost control and was struck by an eastbound Dodge Ram Pickup truck. Fredna died on the scene and Joe succomed to his injuries on Nov. 13.
Fredna and Joe were both born in Mississippi. They were married in 1956 and moved to Ohio, then to Saginaw. They had made Idlewild in Lake County their home for the past 66 years.
The Lindseys owned Blue Ribbon Cleaners on South James Street in Ludington for 55 years, retiring in 2020. Fredna worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years including serving as postmaster beginning in 1977.
