
Birdie Button
Roberta A. “Birdie” (Johnson) Button, 91, of Ludington and Greenville, died Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington. She was born July 11, 1934, in Ludington, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Hansen) Verboam.
Birdie enjoyed bowling, pool league and crafts. She also enjoyed gardening as long as there weren’t any snakes around. She was a life member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Greenville where every year she looked forward to placing the American Flag on the graves of veterans. She loved watching the Ludington Fourth of July parade, not only as a patriot but also as one of the biggest fans of the famous Scottville Clown Band.
Birdie is survived by her sons, Les (Susan) Johnson and Tom (Shari) Johnson; her daughter, Sue Johnson; her grandchildren, Adam (Lexi) Johnson, Aaron (Mali) Johnson, Jessi Bower, Erica (Michael) Figgins, Jason Johnson, Heather Pollock, Ryan (Jane) Johnson, and Brent (Laura Hogeboom) Johnson; her 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews; and the last of the seven children, her sister, Janelle Schade.
Birdie was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Les “Chum” Johnson; her husband, Robert Button; her baby daughter, Teresa; her twin brother, Robert Verboam; her brothers, John Verboam and George Verboam; and her sisters, Joanne Appledorn and Irene Anderson.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2025, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel, with Pastor Brett Spalding officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. To honor Birdie’s patriotism, guests are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.
Memorial contributions may be made to an American Legion of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oakview Medical Care Facility and Sutter Living Center for their wonderful care of Birdie.
