SCOTTVILLE — A new detour begins Thursday in Scottville as a new phase in the water main project begins. The next phase includes connecting the recently-replaced water main along State Street (US 10) at the Main Street intersection. According to Keith Campbell of Michigan Department of Transportation, preparations for the connection by contractor Hallack Contracting of Hart, begins Thursday, Oct. 2 with the actual work set to begin on Monday, Oct. 6, weather permitting. While the connection itself will only take a few days, MDOT will then begin work on removing the sidewalk and updating portions of it to be Americans with Disabilities Act compliant with ramps. Following that, MDOT will begin milling (removing pavement) on State Street from Columbia Avenue to an area just past the city limit east of Bean Road. Campbell said they project should be completed by the end of October.
There are actually two different detours due to concerns by Mason County Central School District officials about congestion around the school and also concerns about pedestrian safety. For this reason, semi trucks with trailers are being asked to take a different route (listed below).
The new detour will be as follows:
Passenger vehicles: From the east: State Street (US 10) to Columbia Avenue, north to Broadway Avenue, west to Reinberg Avenue, south to State Street. From the west: State Street (US 10) to Reinberg Avenue, north to Broadway Avenue, east to Columbia Avenue, south to State Street.
Semi trucks with trailers: From the east: State Street to Columbia Avenue, north to Broadway Avenue, west to Main Street/Scottville Road, north to US 31, south along the bypass to US 10-31. From the west: US 10-31 north on US 31 to Scottville Road, south to Broadway Avenue, east to Columbia Avenue, south to State Street.
