LUDINGTON — The S.S. Badger departed on time for Manitowoc, Wis. Thursday morning, Sept. 18, less than 14 hours after the boat experienced an accident while docking Wednesday. During docking the Badger backed into its sister ship, the S.S. Spartan, which is moored nearby. The incident caused major damage to the Badger’s stern gate.
Lake Michigan Carferry, which operates the Badger, has only stated officially that the incident is under investigation, but has not released an explanation of what caused the boat to miss its mark.
Crews from Lake Michigan Carferry and Al Bufka Construction worked through the night removing the damaged stern gate and the ship departed today without it.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
The Badger is expected to operate until Oct. 12.
