Grace Funeral Home

By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief

AMBER TOWNSHIP — Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington is now Grace Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The funeral home, located at 3060 W. US 10-31, is under the same ownership, just a new name.

Stephanie Kehrer

“The change was part of a thoughtful rebranding to better reflect who we are and how we serve,” said owner Stephanie Kehrer. “We wanted a name that truly captures the care, compassion, and dignity we bring to every family we meet. The word grace speaks to the heart of our work — guiding families with gentleness and respect through some of life’s most difficult moments.”

Kehrer purchased the funeral home, built in 2004, in 2018. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mortuary science from Wayne State University in 1998. Prior to moving to Ludington, she managed Covell Funeral Homes in Traverse City, Kingsley and Elk Rapids.

“At that time, they were owned by a large corporation,” she said. “While I valued the experience, I realized I missed the personal connections and community focus that come with small town service. I wanted to return to an environment where relationships matter more than profits — where the priority is truly caring for people, not meeting corporate quotas. That’s what led me here, and it’s why I’m so committed to serving Mason County families in a way that’s personal, compassionate, and rooted in the community.”

Grace Funeral Home & Cremation Services employs 14 people, a mixture of full time and part time positions.

“Every one of them plays an important part in caring for our families and keeping things running smoothly,” Kehrer said.

I believe funeral service is about more than just handling arrangements — it’s about walking alongside families, listening to them, and helping them create something meaningful,” she said. “Every family has a unique story to tell, and our role is to honor that story with dignity, compassion, and grace. We want families to feel supported, understood, and cared for during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

We’re deeply connected to this community — we live here, we serve here, and we understand the needs of our neighbors. We’re small enough to give truly personal attention, but experienced enough to handle every detail with professionalism. Our goal is to make each family feel like they’re our only family.”

While the name has changed, the funeral home’s high quality services and reputation will remain the same.

I’ve owned and operated this funeral home for many years, and nothing about that has changed. Our team is the same, our location is the same, and our values are the same. The only thing that’s different is our name — and that change is simply to better reflect our mission.

In terms of the care we provide, this new name won’t change anything at all. Families can still expect the same personalized service, attention to detail, and support they’ve always received. All pre-arranged services and agreements remain exactly the same. What is changing is how we present ourselves to the community — the name Grace truly represents the way we want families to feel when they come to us.
