The production will feature one of the largest casts and crews in recent years, bringing the story of Dorothy and her journey along the Yellow Brick Road to the stage. The all-ages show runs approximately two hours, including one intermission.
Evening performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23-24, Oct. 30 and Nov. 6-7, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. Oct. 24-25, Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 7-8. All performances will take place at Center Stage Theater, 3000 N. Stiles Road, Scottville.
The college will host special Halloween activities for families on Saturday, Oct. 31. The event will feature costumes, treats and activities for children attending the performance.
The festivities will begin at 1 p.m. with a children’s costume contest. Participants are invited to wear their Halloween costumes. Guest judges portraying characters from “The Wizard of Oz” will select their favorite costumes, with winners and prizes announced before the 2 p.m. performance. Theater doors will open at 1:30 p.m.
Treats will be available for children during intermission. Following the show, families are invited to participate in a special “Wizard of Oz” trick-or-treat experience, during which children can collect Halloween treats and meet Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and other characters. Photo opportunities with cast members will also be available on stage.
All activities are expected to conclude by 5 p.m., allowing families time to participate in neighborhood trick-or-treating.
“‘The Wizard of Oz’ is a story that generations of families have grown up with, and we’re excited to bring that magic to our community,” said Michelle Kiessel, WSCC director of theater. “With one of our largest casts, crew and ensemble, this production is a wonderful opportunity to bring people together through live theater and share an unforgettable experience with audiences of all ages.”
