
Darwin Wahr
Darwin Richard Wahr, 75, of Free Soil, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 2, 2026 in Free Soil. He was born on November 13, 1950 in Manistee, and was the son of the late Richard and Lorraine (Moser) Wahr. He was a graduate of Onekama High School with the class of 1969.
Darwin married Cindy Lou Thompson on May 21, 2001 in Ludington. He had been employed at the Drop Forge Company in Filer City, but the majority of his life was spent farming on the family farm. In the early 2000s, he joined the labor union and work construction until his retirement. Darwin was a “jack of all trades”, and was always willing to give anybody a helping hand. He enjoyed going to tractor shows and loved to restore old tractors, as his hobby.
Darwin is survived by his wife Cindy Lou Wahr; his children, Richard and Casander Wahr and their children, Alexis and Cody Wahr, Robert and Chanel Mckinnon, Valeria Mckinnon, Candy Mckinnon; his sisters, Kathy (Don) Thompson, Nanette (Fred) Shultz; his brother, Ronald “Randy” (Cheryl) Wahr; his sister- in-law, Linda Wahr; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dennis Wahr.
The family will receive friends at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from noon to 2 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation. A funeral luncheon, for family and friends will also follow the visitation, to be held at the V. F. W. Hall on 28th. Street in Manistee.
