LUDINGTON — The West Shore Beekeepers Association will host its annual “A Taste of Honey” event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Ludington Senior Center, 308 S. Rowe St.

The free event will feature local honey and bee products, educational activities and opportunities to meet area beekeepers.

This year’s event will include an expanded children’s activity table with crafts, bee-themed learning stations and a hands-on lip balm workshop using beeswax.

Local beekeepers will be available to answer questions, including Master Beekeeper Ed Malkowski, who has kept bees in the area for more than 60 years.

Other activities will include complimentary honey tastings featuring varieties from regional apiaries and a live bee observation hive, weather permitting.

Vendors will offer honey, beeswax candles, propolis tinctures, honey-infused skin care products and other bee-related items.

Gift baskets and other prizes will also be raffled. Winners do not need to be present.

“We are thrilled to open our doors and share the fascinating world of bees with the community,” West Shore Beekeepers Association President Candace Casados said. “This year, we’ve really focused on creating a space where families can learn together. We hope the hands-on activities spark a lifelong appreciation for pollinators in our younger guests, all while everyone enjoys the incredible local honey our members have produced.”

The West Shore Beekeepers Association was established in 2015 and is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
