VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The Mason-Lake Conservation District will host a second stakeholder meeting next month as part of an effort to form a Lincoln River Watershed Council and develop priorities for the future of the watershed.
The meeting will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Victory Township Hall. Community members, organizations, municipal representatives and others interested in the watershed are invited to attend.
The meeting will include updates on work completed throughout the watershed this summer along with preliminary findings from field monitoring. Participants will also continue discussions about concerns within the watershed and priorities for future projects.
The Lincoln River Watershed covers about 101 square miles of Mason County before draining into Lake Michigan. The watershed includes forests, wetlands, agricultural land, residential areas and recreational resources.
The meeting is part of the conservation district’s “Kick-Starting Water Quality in the Lincoln River Watershed” project. The district held its first stakeholder meeting in June and has since continued collecting information about current conditions throughout the watershed.
According to the conservation district, information gathered through the project and input from stakeholders are expected to help identify priorities that could guide development of a future watershed management plan.
People do not need to have attended the first stakeholder meeting to participate in the Oct. 3 session.
The project is funded wholly or in part through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Nonpoint Source Program.
