Chamber to host candidate meet and greet Oct. 6

LUDINGTON — Mason County voters will have an opportunity to meet candidates seeking federal, state and local offices during a Candidate Meet and Greet Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Harbor View Marina, 400 S. Rath Ave.

The event, hosted by the Chamber Alliance of Mason County, will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and will feature candidates in contested races appearing on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.

Unlike a traditional candidate forum, the event will provide voters an opportunity to speak directly with candidates in a casual setting and learn about their positions on issues.

“The Chamber is proud to bring this important event to the community,” said Brandy Miller, president and CEO of the Chamber Alliance of Mason County. “We invite the public to join us, speak with the candidates in a casual setting, and learn more about their perspectives on the issues facing Mason County. We hope it will provide some valuable connections ahead of the election.”

Candidates scheduled to participate in federal and state races include:

Second Congressional District: Democrat Benjamin Ambrose and Republican John Moolenaar.

32nd State Senate District: Democrat Rebecca Amidon and Republican Kim Cole.

101st State House District: Democrat Christopher Crain and Republican Jaxon Deur.

102nd State House District: Democrat Angel Coon and Republican Curt VanderWall.

Candidates in contested Ludington races scheduled to participate include mayoral candidates Cheri Stibitz and Carol Hoekstra; Second Ward city council candidates Eric Ward and Alex Kazmarski; Fourth Ward candidates Marco Iafrate and Jack Stibitz; and Sixth Ward candidates Brett Vanderwater and Jake Brody. The city races are nonpartisan.

Seven candidates are seeking two seats on the Ludington Area School District Board of Education: Brad Reed, Julie Keson, Kathleen Chaney, Natalie Grochowski, Jalie Mowry Lipa, Kelly Parker and Whitney McCabe-Stevens. The school board race is nonpartisan.

The meet and greet is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
